Are you in favor to redirecting funding for alternative fuel sources to solar power?

Dannie Briseno: There's plenty of funding for both, or there should be. We need an army and a navy. We need meat and potatoes, and where would the Lone Ranger be without Tonto? Here in the southwest all we have is sun and wind. There's NO reason why we have to burn very much of anything to boil water to make steam to turn turbines to make electricity. Come on, this is 19th century technology. This is the 21st century. For not that much money every single building in western Arizona can be fitted out with solar electric technology. We have wind 300 plus days a year and sun 360 days a year. The same is true in New Mexico, Utah, Nevada and large parts of southeastern California. Burning anything in these parts should be for backup only and nothing else.Fuel is a slightly different story, but only slightly different. We spend billions of tax dollars to make it safe for the oil mafia to import middle east oil into the US. The cost of our military efforts in the mid! dle east and the Muslim world in general never shows up at the pump....but it's still an expense that could be easily put into ramping up alternate fuel production. That and raising the CAFE standards high enough to ramp down the overall use of liquid fuels. Conclusion: We need to move full steam ahead to dismantle as much of our 19th century energy venues as possible over the shortest period of time and replace it with US manufactured solar and wind where ever appropriate. Everyday we hesitate is a day that some other country will develop these 21st century technologies while we'll be stuck with burning fossil fuels. That's bad policy!...Show more

Geraldo Mccalla: The sun is an alternative fuel source. Why do we need to redirect it if it is there already? I know that the solar systems I own have been working as a great investment!

Teodoro Lamond: No. Solar Power is a nice way of producing power and does have potential but the problem is that solar power re! quires some type of energy storage method. Battery technology ! is really inefficient compared to chemical energy storage. As such, the amount of energy one could potentially obtain from algae based biofuels is greater per kilogram than even the most advanced batteries of the foreseeable future. The fact is we need a good method of energy storage because otherwise the power produced is kind of pointless......Show more
