Certainly there are some classes here and there which teachers assign work that wakes 5 minutes and give 50 to do it, but most of the classes I've attended have been very beneficial. In math, we are either taught new work or given a long list of examples to do from the manual, in science we had 2 courses in 1, in every language class there has been some time wasted but definitely not all, and PE is never wasted.Possibly it was just your school, and many others like it. There definitely needs to be better standards of education, as MANY many schools are not up to par. There certainly should be a reform and it should happen soon, but it should happen after the debt is seriously decreased, as there is too much debt right now to invest in education, which sadly would help the economy long term. Evelin Turlich: I do think also that the public school system is flawed. The first problem is the No child left behind program. This is basically telling every child that they are the same. I do not believe this. Some children take longer to develop and some take less time. This came about I fully believe so that in a way no one has to be responsible for telling a child that they are not as smart as the next. Telling a child that they need to be held back is not telling them that they are stupid, it is telling them that they need to spend more time on the level they are in so that they will be able to succeed in the next level. Then we get into the next area, sports. It seems to me that all schools put way to much emphasis on sports. IN a way I have seen that this drags out a school year, many schools let out for major sporting events, or so that they consider major. Many children do not participate in sports, but lose the abil! ity to learn because of sports. I do think that there should b! e more accelerated programs for those that are able to move through the system faster than others, and at the same time we should be able to hold children back if they need more time to develop. This will allow for children to enter the secondary education system earlier or the work force earlier, and others that need more time to have more time. Why send someone to college or into the work force if they are not matured enough to be there.
