Antwan Schrum: What kind of DVR? The Directv DVRs USB ports are actually there, but serve no purpose at the time being. I dont know about other DVRs though.
Violette Vanek: Check this device out and see if it helps. You can connect the composite output of your DVR into the DVD Xpress and connect the DVD Xpress to your computer via a USB cable. I believe they sell them at staples, circuit city etc. There is also a website that you can go to. http://www.usb-ware.com/ads-dvd-xpress.h...With DVD Xpress you can transfer your video to your hard drive and then edit it if you want. DVD Xpress comes with basic video editing software. The usb port on the DVR only works if the cable company or sat company has activated them. Ronnie Barcus: Like others have noted ALMOST all DVRs have USB ports. Most companies have them on there for "Future Use". The ONLY DVR that comes stock with the USB ports EN! ABLED is a Tivo DVR. Now DirecTV Tivo's (NOT DirecTV DVR's) can be easily modified with software to enable the USB ports.Now that said the USB ports are for connecting a USB Ethernet Adapter to. This will allow running a ethernet cable from the Tivo, Modified DirecTV Tivo to your homes Wired/wireless Router. Now the Tivo can be networked which will allow the shows/movies to be able to be transfered as a file from the DVR to a networked Desktop/Laptop either Wirelessly or Wired. For example I transfer some shows/movies form my DirecTV Tivo to my Wireless Laptop, it takes about 15 minutes to transfer a 2 hour show.Now if you do NOT have Either a Tivo, DirecTV Tivo, Comcast DVR made by Motorola that you want ot modify then keep reading below. It is about the only way to be able to transfer the shows/movies to a PC so that you can edit and burn to DVD.First what you would need for your laptop is a PCMCIA TV Tuner Capture Card. Once you have the TV tuner card inserted into your ! laptop you can connect either a coaxail cable, RCA Audio and R! CA Video Cable, or S-Video and RCA Audio Cables from the back of your DVR to the laptops TV Tuner card. Press play on the DVR and Record on the TV Tuners software. This will record the shows/movies onto your laptops hard drive.
