Jose Calaycay: Unfortunately, traveling by train in SA is not generally the safest option, and besides, what do you do once you arrive at your destination? rely on more public transport? I think not.The other things being built are a wall for R50 million around the president's house (yes, the same one that said crime is just a perception amongst whites). They are also very active building houses for the poor, there is a great demand for them, and even more now since we have an additional 10 million illegals that have entered the country in the last 10 years (Our quiet diplomacy seems to be paying off, we have millions more new additions to our clear and obvious demand for unskilled labour to supplement our dangerously low unemployment rate.)...Show more
Dick Maisenbacher: South Africa's domestic transport system, regarding extent, quality, price (for what you get), cleanliness and comfort, is LIGHTYEARS behind other middle-income countries. When I take the cheapest t! rain here in the middle-income country where I currently work, I enter a world of air conditioning, soft carpets, comfortable adjustable seats, electronic and voice announcements in 4 different languages at every station...hell, even curtains at the windows! Bus stations compete with each other to take you anywhere in luxury coaches (at a very low price). two cities have extensive underground train networks (one for a third city coming), that take you from one side of the city to the other in 25 minutes. Passengers use elctronic cards or if you want to buy a ticket, rows of auto-ticket-machines stand ready to serve you.So, yes, SA does, but it got stuck somewhere in the 1970's....Show more
Rebeca Mckin: I am Thai Food Trendy yet complex. People seek you out - though they're not sure why. Mmmmm I love South East Asia, Lived out there for 6 months... As for being Trendy and being sought out... Naa I don't think so... Simple and uncomplicated would be a better descriptio! n. Ivan Velazquez: Nothing will happen under a black Government. Period!
Dominic Sciancalepore: Yes, we do have a metro-rail system....that connects Johannesburg central business district (CBD) with Soweto, Pretoria, the East Rand, and Vaal areas....this is the busiest of our metrorail routes in the country.....then there's Durban metrorail...connecting the CBD with surrounding suburbs and townships........the Cape Town metrorail, connecting the CBD with many parts of the Peninsula.........the other metrorail is in East London, but the city is not hosting any of the games.....We currently constructing an underground rail between OR Tambo International (major port of entry)....and surrounding areas...........Show more
Matt Tiry: Well we have a train system, we've had one for ages now, we are working on the underground train system and as far as world cup preps go i have no idea....
Jamika Gregorio: Ja, we've got a metro rail, surprising! ly enough called Metro Rail. But its more for cargo and freight; ppl do use it for transport (trainsurfing is on the increase amongst Soweto youths :( ), but its nothing like its counterparts in eg: LondonConstruction is underway for the Gautrain, a hispeed rail link btwn Joburg and Pretoria, should be in time for 2010.There are (supposedly) a lot of preparations for 2010.I defintly know there should be new & upgraded roads....Show more
Arlen Decorte: We have a rail system, but nothing like the UK or the US. They are building a speed way trian system, which I see the progress of, so it looks to be ready on time. However, public transport is some what of a joke. We have taxi's but you dont want to use those. That is why SA has one of the highest car sales in the world, because if you want to get around, you fly or you drive your own car. Most forigners dont understand the South African fixation on cars, but we have to, it our only means of transport....Show more
Georgia Dees: Nope they dont have the funds while their gravey train ! is stiill functioning. . However a friend sent me a picture of a train travelling into Cape Town with passangers hanging onto the outside of the train like one sees in Bombay India. For transport horse and cart will be the safest. Who knows they better get off their butts they running out of time.
