Nelly Kikuchi: They do three teeth. Two to hook on to real teeth... the one in the middle fills the hole in your mouth where a tooth used to be. The two real teeth that the bridge is hooked onto are filed down and the bridge is cemented. The real teeth give the bridge stability.
Alane Antes: I believe that if for example you had tooth missing, but the adjacent teeth were there, all three could be made into a one piece bridge. I had this done once and am 99% sure he called it a bridge. He ground down the old teeth to accept the new bridge.

The permanent bridge will attach to two abutment teeth in your mouth that have been prep! ped on either side of the missing tooth or teeth. The abutments will have crowns and spacers to fill the gap to correct the occlusion of the opposing dentition. If you don't fill the gap made by the missing lower tooth the tooth in the upper jaw will begin to drop down into that space.A removable bridge can correct for more missing teeth on both sides of the jaw and also front teeth. Sometimes there will be designed with precision rests (A capped tooth with a built in slot) or the cast wire clasps that are hook like in appearance. Willetta Munhall: The one I have they grind down 2 teeth on either side of that space then they act as a post to hold the denture in place they are cemented.
Jerald Florence: Among all the answers all are correct. My Maryland Fixed Bridge has a band around two real teeth and was cemented down. I had braces to open up a space for a tooth that never developed and a fixed bridge put in. IT's really amazing and as long as I floss under and around it good it's never been a problem after more than 10 years.
